How nymo designs its AI-generated coffee packaging

Every nymo coffee package features a design that has never existed before — and will never exist again.

This is not a marketing phrase. It is literally how the system works.

Here's what truly goes into each package.

The Idea: Coffee you really look at

We started with a simple observation: most coffee packaging looks similar. Kraft paper, botanical illustrations, a mountain. Sometimes a portrait of the roaster.

We wanted to do something different — not because different is inherently better, but because we believe that packaging is part of the experience. When you buy coffee, for yourself or as a gift, the appearance matters. The ritual of brewing coffee begins before the first spoon.

So we asked: What if every single package had a design that truly makes you look?

Why AI?

Human illustration on this scale — with true variety — is simply not possible. You would need hundreds of artists working in coordinated styles to produce thousands of designs that belong together but are never identical.

AI generative models have made something new possible: a visual language with almost infinite variations, all shaped by a consistent aesthetic direction. Not "AI for AI's sake" — but AI as the only tool that can truly achieve what we set out to do.

The process is more human than it sounds.

How it works

1. Directional Guidelines (very human) We define the aesthetic parameters: color palettes, texture types, compositional rules, what kind of images feel right for coffee packaging and what doesn't. This is equal parts art direction and editorial intuition.

2. Generation and Selection (AI + Human) We generate large quantities of candidate images. Most are rejected. We look for images that hit a specific kind of strangeness — something that makes you look twice, that you can't quite describe. This selection process is surprisingly demanding.

3. Refinement Selected images are adjusted for printability, color accuracy, and bag layout. A generated image that looks beautiful on screen can fall apart when applied to a flexible bag with folds and seams. We take this into account.

4. Print Production nymo bags are printed in runs for which printing presses were never originally designed — true individualized production, not batch production with cosmetic variation.

The result: every bag that leaves our warehouse is truly one of a kind.

What this means for you

When you order nymo coffee, you don't know exactly which design will arrive. You know it comes from one of our series — Liquid Quiet, 50 Shades of Beige, Veil Bloom — but within that series, your specific package is a surprise.

We think that's a good thing. It makes every delivery feel like something worth opening.

The Big Picture

We are in an early era of AI-generated physical products. Most AI art lives on screens. We wanted to find out what it feels like when it becomes something tangible — something you hold in your hands, that smells of roasted coffee, that you put on your kitchen counter every morning.

So far, the answer is: it feels pretty good.

Every package is different. Every package is nymo.
